After the lodge ...

Now we're back home, and settled.

What a lovely weekend!

We basically relaxed at the lodge ... not much going on; enjoyed watching the snow fall, the large icicles hanging down the window, the fireplace in the suite. The lodge has a huge fireplace in the main sitting area, so we went there to play tic-tac-toe (the chess board was missing some pieces) and read our books. Our daughter worked on the crossword puzzle.

We walked across the street to the Latchstring Restaurant for dinner. We practically had the place to ourselves, sitting in the massive wood structure with the heads of pronghorn, elk, deer, moose, and buffalo gazing into the distance. I had a chicken covered in Asiago cheese with roasted asparagus and wild rice. It was delicious! Later in the evening, we enjoyed some cheeses with my favorite "artificially sweetened drink" -> Fruit2-O (tastes like fruit juice but is just water sweeteneded with Splenda).

We slept in until about 9:30 in the morning. Check out was 11, so we packed up, showered, and then I headed out to thaw off the truck. It was 1 degree outside. It took a good 10 minutes to get it warm. I almost ate snow on my way out, after stepping onto a large patch of ice and doing a bojangle dance with bags and suitcases in my hands but I managed to catch my balance. The truck was so cold, even the displays inside had some frosting over them.

We went back to the Latchstring for breakfast, then headed home to drop off some supplies. Then, it was onto Rapid City. There, we stopped by an art museum - the Dahl Fine Arts Center, where they had an exhibit by Carl Grupp. As fate would have it, they were also having a concert! This was no ordinary concert - they were playing classical music, with the actual classical instruments! The piano and clarinet were replicas of how those instruments really were in the 18th century - the piano had only five octaves and the clarinet had fewer holes, no rings around the holes and no clamp on the end (the reed was attached by string). The violin - OH! the violin - was a Stradivarius! It was BEAUTIFUL to hear. My daughter enjoyed it as well. She made a brief mention of it at her blog (she typed today's entry 100% by herself! I only had to spell a few of the words for her).

For dinner, we had a stew made with buffalo, potatoes, carrots and sumac, with breadsticks that we dipped in olive oil and zattar while enjoying a glass of red wine. My son had his girlfriend over for dinner and a movie. We are going to have our own movie date later this evening.

That's all for now!
