Kids, Kids, Everywhere!

What a day!

We woke and prepared the house for the children and the party. My breakfast was a skillet - I took organic potato strips (like hash browns) and cooked them in a skillet with a bit of olive oil drizzled on. Then, I crumbled buffalo sausage on top and finished cooking, and finally added a few free range eggs. This was all scrambled together with chili powder. YUM!

My wife drove to pick up the cakes. I helped with vacuuming a few rooms, setting up a table, queuing the children's songs, getting the games ready (twister and charades) and then going outside to shovel snow so there was a clear path to the house. It was a balmy 40 degrees (Warm for us) so no need to salt ... although this morning, I wish I had, because it is now single digits and it snowed last night, with the salt it would have melted but now it's shovel time again!

I'd say my daughter had a very good show rate. Out of everyone she invited, only one did not confirm, and of those who did confirm, all of them arrived. That age is precious. There was one boy who did not want his mom to leave ... she was going to go put the little one down to take a nap, but he started crying and said he never wanted to come in the first place (LOL) - however, when she said she'd stay, suddenly he was all about the party.

For the most part, everyone had fun. They enjoyed seeing our blue-headed pionus parrot, playing twister and charades, and doing a craft (we put together little picture frames and left glue sticks, sequins, eyeballs, colored cotton balls, etc for them to decorate them).

Of course, cake and ice cream time is the exciting time.

Everyone left with big smiles on their face. Alyssa got some computer activity games and a movie for her birthday, so I watched her play the games and then watched the movie with her and my wife. Our son was down in Hot Springs at a basketball tournament.

After that, we wound down by loading the DVD player with Jeffrey Combs CDs and listened for several hours and I fell asleep on the couch down there.

I was worn out - the combination of body weight training, heavy downhill skiing, shoveling, etc, left me feeling quite a bit sore. Glad I feel 100% refreshed today.

Today, as I mentioned, we have fresh snow and single digits. We are driving about 40 minutes to Rapid City to attend church with my grandparents. We have been visiting various churches to find one that feels like home and just haven't decided where we connect. Even though there is a good distance to this church, if it feels right then it will be a new ritual to head into town, go to church, and spend some quality time with the family there. Not a bad routine at all, if you ask me.

So, I'm going to get my daughter some breakfast prepared and help her get dressed, and then we're off to start another week in this new year.

Richest blessings to all,

Jeremy Likness
