Weekend of Freedom

Wow.

It's been almost a week since I last posted. Where do I begin?

We started our day on Wednesday of last week in a bit of chaos. We got the children to school, but the dogs posed more of a challenge. They were wild with excitement and all over the place. My wife had an opportunity to list some property at the last moment, and decided to combine dropping the dogs off at the kennel with visiting her prospect. As the universe has an uncanny way of doing, events conspired to bring us to the right place at the right time and we arrived at my grandparents' house about 10 minutes before we needed to head to the airport.

I can't say the flight was uneventful, because although we simply flew to Denver, transferred, and finished the flight into LA, I was reading a book called, "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind" by T. Harv Ecker, and that was QUITE eventful.

We arrived at the airport and were transported to our hotel. Because we were a day early and my business platinum card with American Express gives us quite a few benefits, we decided to stay the first day at a hotel in Beverly Hills and take our vacation. The Park Hyatt is beautiful and we went with the expectation that we would receive a free upgrade. It turns out they were busy and booked, and did not have the next higher level available - so they gave us a complimentary upgrade to an execute suite. I enjoyed viewing the hills and city from the 14th floor.

We had a relaxing time. We went to a local restauarant called Frida's and had a great dinner - mine was chicken stuffed with spinach and asiago cheese and my wife enjoyed a shrimp ceviche. We relaxed and the next morning, after exercising at the gym (it was very well-equipped), went to Rodeo Drive to do some shopping. We both received clothes. My wife deserves a watch in a blue box but we ran out of time, which is fine because again there is a reason for everything.

We transferred to the hotel for the seminar and immediately connected with the hosts (Jeffrey Combs, Erica Combs, Dean Mitzel - GoldenMastermind). My team member, Ed Orlowski, was there. We wanted to finish some shopping and went to pick up a watch and new shoes for me, then enjoyed a cocktail party at the hotel to meet the other 128 participants.

The first day set the stage. We woke up early and exercised. There were some very powerful speakers - Jeffrey Combs started the day, then we heard from Artemis Limpert, Ellie Drake, Frederic Lehrman, David Martin, and more. We connected at many levels. Jeffrey announced my own progress since the last seminar and I spoke about my 5-CD set. I was hired by a couple that are near and dear to our heart (Doreen and I spent the better part of the weekend getting to know them better) and had a few others mention they would consider bringing me on board as their health coach.

That evening, we went back to Beverly Hills for a party hosted for our group by a hollywood producer. It was a gorgeous neighborhood and we met some great people there.

The final day was by far the most powerful. We met and listened to Stephen Simon, who has produced movies like Smoky and the Bandit, Somewhere in Time, What Dreams May Come, and even Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. He had a very powerful story to share about money not buying happiness and that what's in the heart is what we should all follow. He almost lost everything several times, moving into a period of lack greater than many I know who are "comfortable" in their life experience, and yet each time came back not from luck or magic, but because he was following his heart and never gave up.

Then, we had an activity that tested our trust with each other. The details don't matter much because those who understand, understand, and those who don't, won't until it's the right time. I connected with someone I had met that day to accomplish this goal, and my wife was uncertain. I knew this was a KEY moment for Doreen, because sometimes she lets fear get in the way. Why fear? Not fear of failing, but sometimes she doesn't allow herself to deserve how wonderful she really is ... she doesn't allow herself to shine. I knew I could not make this decision for her, so I let her decide. She chose to not fear and we did the activity together - it was a powerful, powerful moment that will change our lives forever.

After this period, we were all exhausted and had a break. We returned to the hotel room to find her cell phone lit with messages. It turns out several real estate deals she had set into motion (remember the chaos the day we left) all culminated and resulted in closings ... it was an exciting moment. She just received her license so this was her first, true moment in free enterprise receiving what her value is on the free market. We cheered, laughed, cried, and she told me how she will pick up her bracelet in the blue box at the store when we fly into Chicago.

The flight back was relaxed. We were in another state of being, and did not notice any resistance, chaos, waiting, or nervous tension in the airport or on the way home. We simply relaxed and let the universe flow. We closed our eyes and gave thanks to God.

Of course, returning home was a highlight. I haven't seen my parents in months and my dad was there to pick us up. We drove to my grandparents' house and there was my daughter with a huge grin and the deepest, widest, bluest eyes I can imagine ... I was simply lost in her love for me. I handed her the little box that read Anthropologie on the outside. She just grinned and ripped it open to find the soft stuffed horse that we picked up for her on Rodeo Drive.

We had a lovely dinner at an Italian restaurant and returned home.

Yesterday was a new day for me. It was not a day of dread (I have to do this, or that, or the other.) It was not a day of chaos, of worry, of scheduling. I probably had more e-mails sitting in my inbox than I've had since I left corporate America, and it did not intimidate me. I knew that business is really about people and connections, but this weekend really solidified it for me. I realized that tasks, e-mails, to-do lists, all of these are not things that have to get done - they are opportunities to connect and grow. I had a great day and look forward to creating more abundance the next day and the next and the next.

I happened across an e-mail from someone I've known for years, and realized I was finally in a position to pursue my ultimate vision, and that is to be able to give out of my abundance. So I started the week not with receiving, but with giving, to a good friend's cause. I believe everyone should give out of their heart, not out of obligation and especially not out of the need to be considered a person who gives. If you feel compelled to give or feel connected with the cause for a solution to MS, then you can give by clicking on the link.

Blessed be,

Jeremy Likness
