We had quite the adventure yesterday.
The day was overcast from the outskirts of Wilma, but cool and pleasant. We found a few playgrounds and went there with Alyssa and had a blast. We slept in from the night before and did not go to church this weekend. We were not sure what to expect from the weather, and also have family down to visit and wanted to coordinate our day with them.
We ended up visiting my parents for dinner. My aunt and uncle from South Dakota were down (they are leaving today). We had Mom's chili (delicious) and some red wine. I helped my dad install his storm shutters. When it was time to have some dessert (key lime pie), the power went out. We turned on flashlights and lit candles and decided we should go home to see if we had power.
On the way back, Alyssa was freezing so I gave her my shirt to wrap around like a blanket. We picked up some extra batteries and candles and came home.
The night turned out to be uneventful. The lid blew off the trash can and a few palm fronds ended up in our yard, but that was it. In fact, my wife and daughter took a short walk this morning to the intercoastal and were amazed at how low the low tide really was. We opened the windows because the hurricane came at the same time as a "cold front" so now we have heavy gusts pumping 70 degree cool air through our home. It's quite pleasant.
Doreen's parents spent the night in a shelter. The eye of the storm is just over West Palm Beach as I write this, only a few miles south of where her parents are. Everyone believes it should be fine but again, better safe than sorry.
This weekend I received a copy of the new design for my Amazing Fat Loss Secrets Revealed 4-CD set. I LOVE IT! It's in a DVD style case, so it's narrow with double-sided trays to hold the discs. The fulfillment company did a fantastic job on the design and packaging ... these are shipping out to those of you who pre-ordered them and I look forward to your initial feedback. This is a set that you will be able to access immediately (you can listen to the audio online while waiting for the physical CDs to ship). One of the original guests on our teleseminar that this was recorded from said, "there is some very valuable information in there and the way you explain it is as usual done in a way that makes you want to listen and it is easy to understand."
The first wave of 10 Fat Mistakes CDs also arrived over the weekend, and I had my first customer write to say:
I was very excited to hear that feedback. I'll be calling some on those in the U.S. who ordered it and should have received it already to confirm it reached its destination. I already have some people taking advantage of the bulk quantity discounts. If you work at a fitness center, run an e-Bay store or simply have plenty of friends and family who deserve this information, you can receive substantial discounts for bulk orders of the 10 Fat Mistakes CD.
For those of you going protein-crazy, consider that protein supplements may not be necessary. I agree, but if your goal is maximize muscle gain in a short period of time, it's hard to argue with the successful natural competitors who all insist on a hefty protein intake. Here's more on protein and some options if you feel the shakes will add value to your regimen.
Be careful, however, because your "muscle-building supplement" may have more than you bargained for ... according to this Olympic contender, his supplements had more than just protein in them.
When I tell my 60-year clients that in today's world they're only "middle-aged," I'm really not joking. Consider Bettie Wilson, who is sturdy and healthy at 115 years of age. You might find some interesting clues to the fountain of youth in this article about centenarians.
It appears that the media is asleep at the wheel. They claim that lean protein is new diet trend, but I will gladly show them my shelves full of books recommending lean proteins that date back decades. Are they that desperate for a new spin? I suppose they'll also say that muscle growth as a key to lose weight is a new concept as well?
I don't necessarily agree with all of these "Big Five" keys to good health, but it's a start. Sleep and relaxation are very often overlooked in weight management programs. Regular checkups are important, I guess, but spend some time and make sure you find a doctor interested in addressing the cause (nutrition, lack of exercise, etc) rather than simply eager to medicate the symptom.
Want to avoid inflammation? Look to your nutrition habits first. We have the healthy fats mentioned in this article. I also regularly take grapeseed extract which I'm told acts as a natural COX-2 inhibitor. Find out more about the products I personally use here.
If you are a vegetarian teen, or your children are shunning meat, read this article about the importance of "watching your diet" when you go vegan or vegetarian.
Halloween is just around the corner ... how about more healthy Halloween treats?
I knew it was inevitable ... the recommendations for sodium intake are now even less than before. However, everyone seems to focus on overall sodium and very few actually talk about the relationship between sodium and potassium. I believe this ratio is far more important than total intake, and the issue is less that so many people eat so much sodium, and more that so many people eat so little potassium (hint: it comes mainly from fresh vegetables and fruits). For more on sodium, read The Skinny on Salt.
Got headaches? Consider avoiding wheat for a few weeks ... it may just be the culprit.
If you think calorie-free is really calorie-free (i.e. diet soda), think again. Water ... it does a body good! Seriously, it looks like chronic diet soda drinkers are 10% more likely to become overweight than those who drink regular soda.
Do you consume a lot of seafood? There is a lot of controversy about mercury levels ... so just how safe IS seafood?
Having vision problems? Instead of contact lenses or glasses, consider changing your diet!
Every once in awhile, we get stories that are the type that make you want to slap your forehead and say, "Really? You don't say?" Personally, I believe a study linking McDonald's to obesity is one of them.
Thanks for joining me once again. Don't forget to share this resource with your friends. Until next time ...
Blessed be,

Jeremy,
You've done it again!
I received my 10 Fat Mistakes CD in the mail today. I have listened to it twice already. Needless to say, I love it! I like the way you touched on all the different parts of weight loss including the goals and scales, nutrition and diet pills. It cleared up a few things that I have been wondering about. I think this CD is a must for all people starting on a weight loss program, especially if they are new to all of this like me. And yep — I am guilty of the majority of these fat mistakes.
I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed this CD. I will be listening to it again and again. Great job.
