One Word: Frustration

The time has come for some changes. For so many months now I've been struggling with my exercise routine. It's been the typical weights and cardio thing.

However I've made no progress. But what is progress and what am I aiming for? And that's just the problem. I don't really know what my goals are, and when I do set goals, I feel my body betrays me.

I've been thru various weight training programs that I've made up myself - but I think my mind is just not in it.

It's time for something new...

  • Have you tried Yourself! Fitness
it's a videio game and you can use hand weights with it.
    Like having a personal trainer.
Do the 15 min one and work yourself up.

  • I usually do split bodybuilding training, chest mon, back/abs tues, etc. When I get bored or complacent with my workouts, I change it up a bit. I do the following group of exercises non-stop except for a quick drink of water between sets:

    100 sit-ups
    50 push-ups
    20 pull-ups
    100 body squats
    1 or 2 mile run

I try to get each exercise done without stopping and if I can't I work up to it.

This workout knocks me OUT! Of course as you get better you can increase the output, but essentially it's a spark plug type workout, not a staple, so the reps above should be enough.

  • Haven't tried that iportion. One of my goals has been bodyweight exercises.

Joe: That workout is more like crossfit. I'm a fair ways away from 20 pull-ups just yet. But there was a time when I couldn't do one!

    Thanks for the encouragement

  • You need a coach! Plain and simple. You need someone to lay out a program for you and keeps you accountable.

While I think Crossfit is a new and different program, I would just tell you to proceed with a bit of caution. I've seen too many people get hurt from similar forms of training.

Just remember that no two people are alike. So what works for one person may not work another and in fact might injure you. A great coach should always start with a full assessment and then prescibe a training program that will challenge you within your own abilities.

  • I have written on my treadmill in permanent marker JUST DO IT. Because I don't want to some days. Somedays I just can't face it. But I do it. I force myself to take those first steps and it doesn't matter to me if it is boring or if the hour long walk lasts eternally, it is the cornerstone of my 77 lb (so far) weight loss. I have to do it because without that cornerstone, I am fat. I know it. I just bite the bullet and do it and it is never as long or as dreadful as it seems when I am dreading it.
