High levels of testosterone kills off nerve cells.
High levels of testosterone kills off nerve cells.
The Yale team exposed cultured nerve cells to testosterone, and found that it triggered programmed cell death (apoptosis). This can lead to a "catastrophic" loss of brain cells.
"People think steroids are banned because they are performance enhancing, but the second, equally important, reason is that they are known to have a major negative effect on people's health.Steer clear of the juice. Who wants to get Parkinsons or Alzheimers disease?

The Yale study that came to the conclusion that "too much testosterone causes increased cell apoptosis" is flawed in numerous ways. First, this study was performed in-vitro, in a petri dish. It is not clear that testosterone would have the same affect in a living brain. For instance, the study itself found that estrogen is "neuro-protective." We all know that testosterone is converted in the human body to estrogen, so increasing testosterone levels are accompanied by increasing estrogen levels. In fact, in most in-vivo human studies testosterone has no affect on cognition. Further, the idea that cell damage would lead to aggression and suicidal tendencies as stated by the Yale researches is not only completely unfounded but foolish and irresponsible. There is no established link between "massive cell death" and aggression. It sounds like these researchers are far more concerned with bashing testosterone than providing valuable scientific research. This is junk science at its finest.

Only one problem... bodybuilders don't inject themselves in the head. Maybe if scientists worked out once in a while they would know this.
Yale research is clearly going down hill.

This disgusts me and makes me have far less respect for Yale "
research." Estrogen is what causes mood swings. Why do women have mood swings each month? Because of changes in female hormones. When taking anabolic steroids, you want to control estrogen conversion with Arimidex or Fermera. No mood swings. There's the research for you and I didn't have to wear a lab coat playing with test tupes only to come up with the WRONG conclusion. Next.
