Over the last month or so I have scaled down some of my more intense workouts.
Why? Because I was losing too much weight!
A strange thing to happen - but quite simply - I am not eating enough to sustain the levels of training. And... when you are generally eating healthy and have been doing for some time - it is rare to overeat.
When I fail to eat enough - then I start burning up muscle - which is one of the most self-defeating things you can do.
Another thought occured to me. If your goal is fitness - once an "appropriate" level of fitness is maintained - then you have a job "holding on" to that fitness level.
Spend three weeks on the couch - and all your hard-earned fitness gains go out the window. So it's important to set goals and figure out exactly what it is you are after.

I've been trying to find an answer to a question that I have but haven't been able to find it anywhere so I wonder if you could help me. I am currently lifting weights and working out to get my desired look (six pack and good pectorals). I don't want to look really muscular but just want the above. I am not far off reaching this goal but once I have reached my look how do I continue to workout without improving my muscles to look over muscular and vainey but keep that look I want. Should I cut down but this could leed to losing muscle. Can you give me help on how to keep my body look constant but still workout to keep this look?

Despite what you may have heard, losing weight isn’t a incomprehensible process. In fact, weight loss doesn't even have to include odd diets, uncommon exercises or even the use of medication or fitness equipment. So what is the secret to losing weight effectively? Simply make minor changes each and every single day and you'll slowly but surely lose extra unwanted weight, pound by pound.
Secrets to Weight Loss
To lose a sinlge pound, you must burn approximately 3500 calories above what you already burn while conducting daily activities. That sounds impossible doesn't it? Well, it’s not. Here's how simple it is.
1. Calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). Your BMR is what your body needs to maintain normal functions like breathing and digestion.
2. Calculate your activity level. Use a calorie calculator to figure out how many calories you burn while doing various things like sitting, standing, exercising, etc. throughout the day.
3. Closely monitor of how many calories you eat. Use a food journal to add up what you eat and drink each and every single day. If you're eating less calories than you're burning, you will lose weight.
Focusing your attention on daily changes is the best way to reach your weight loss goals. Don’t expect to lose weight overnight. Instead expect to lose weight gradually over time. To lose weight gradually over time, is to lose weight the healthy way. When attempting to lose weight it’s important that you always remember, your Health is more important than your Appearance!

I hear ya!
I raced marathons forever ago and couldn't afford (time and the cost) to keep myself fed. It was ridiculous. I burned through food like a torch. I had to stop the marathons when I realized I was eating more than a family of four . . . I'm 105 lbs, that's just crazy and no weight to drop without serious performance sacrifices.
Being healthy means moderating ourselves at both ends of the spectrum. It's hard to enjoy work and life when you think about eating and training and eating for training all day.
For me, it's shorter distances now. Hope you find your optimal mix!

Good post! I have been in the same position as you. I find it hard to eat more than i am use to or feel comfortable with. When you train a lot you need to amp up the amount you eat. This is one of the reasons i scaled it down to a three day per week work out, i was also losing to much weight.
