Happy Halloween!

What a fun day! I got to help my daughter's class with their Halloween party. My wife and I both helped pass out bags. The teachers set up a "parade" with different stations around the campus and the children marched around. Alyssa was a ballerina.

Did we mention already that you should watch what supplements you take, because they might have some steroids hiding in them?

Many of my readers and clients are aware of the "dairy test" that I advocate. Most people are lactose intolerant and don't realize it, simply because they've confused that stuffy nose with allergies to pollen or other causes. The test is simple: just cut out dairy for four weeks. We're not asking you to do it for life, just a few short weeks to see how your body responds. If you are a minority, this article explains why it is even more important to try this out ... what many people find is they gain energy, release fat, their face thins out from being bloated and puffy, and they suddenly can breathe again.

If you're one of those, you might consider ditching dairy. Don't worry about the billion-dollar scare tactics that have so many people believing dairy is the only way to get calcium ... that's just an ugly side of marketing that fails to share that milk increases your body's needs for calcium and that you can do just as well getting calcium from a combination of nuts, seeds, leafy green vegetables and a well-balanced supplement.

Besides ditching dairy (for some people), another way to combat the extra flab is to take the stairs. Be sure to share that with the French, who are also struggling with a rising rate of obesity.

Until next time,

Transform the world: create a new M-field!

I'm back from my travels and what a pleasure it was.

It's been such an awakening for me to begin my own business that involves coaching and speaking. I used to be that person on the plane who would curl up into his shell and look at the floor to avoid eye contact. I'd travel all over the world without really knowing anyone sitting within two feet of me.

Now I realize what a blessing it is to go out and meet fascinating people. I wonder if insecurity in some strange way is really a relic of the ego? It seems that the ego wants to compare us to everyone else, and that can either lead to a feeling of inferiority or superiority. When we truly relax and realize it's not about me, but that I can learn from others, it takes on a new quality.

I connected with a woman who lives in Europe and has spent extensive time in Rome and other parts of Italy, lives part of the year in Germany and travels to the United States as well. She speaks I believe four languages, maybe five. I met another woman who was flying back from an interview and shared with me her knowledge of the Cedar Rapids area. A beautiful couple from Toronto were traveling down to Longboat Key for the winter. How excited, to think how few degrees of separation a smile and a handshake can take us from places around the world!

The coaching sessions was incredible. I always share that I learn from my clients just as they learn from me. I received quite a bit of peace and calm on this trip because of the area I was in. I enjoyed the time and took back with me a greater passion and vigor for what I do.

I speak about synchronicity quite a bit. I want to share something I believe is very synchronistic for those of you who still are seeking signs that there is more purpose to life than random chance.

For flying out, I chose a series of CD sets that I've been listening to over the past year, called The Money Masters. The link will take you to a shopping cart, and I own every disc in that library. It is all excellent material. The Money Masters series features several different speakers who have "been there and done that" and they share the keys to their success. For the trip, I pulled out the discs by my mentor, Jeffery Combs, and another amazing individual, Frederic Lehrman.

On one of the CDs, Frederic talks about the morphogenetic field. I won't bore you with the details ... you can find those out here, here, here, and through a google search on the term, "Morphogenetic field."

I'm going to oversimplify. The concept is simply that there is a field like gravity that contains patterns. When you do something, you can create a new pattern in this field. We are all tapped into the field and therefore as more people are successful, it becomes easier to learn through this field. Again, that is oversimplified but basically when the 4-minute mile barrier was broken, it created a new "M-field" for running a mile in under a minute. This, in turn, led to many other people breaking the 4-minute barrier in a relatively short period of time.

There are other experiments that lend credibility to the field, if you dig into the links above.

So what does this have to do with fitness? When I first founded my company, I had this overwhelming sense that to tackle helping others combat obesity, I would have to create a literal empire to reach the millions of people who are overweight or obese. The morphogenetic theory, however, says I don't have to do that (although it would be nice for business, it's not a requirement to reach my mission of transforming millions of lives). Why? Because if I can even couch a few of you to overcome your patterns of living overweight and obese, then we can create a new M-field for becoming and living healthy. This, in turn, will help others around the world ... and make it "easier" for them to break that barrier.

I think that is so powerful and exciting and it lets me focus on my individual clients because I don't worry about how many people I reach, but instead how effectively I break through with the people whose lives I touch.

Somewhere back when I began writing this, I mentioned synchronicity, another idea that is a little out of the ordinary for most people. That's okay, because to take on the extraordinary task of transforming the health of the world, we're going to have to embrace some extraordinary methods to do so. Read more about synchronicity here, here, and here, and then learn how to tap into sychronicity for Creation on Demand by listening to Jeffery's CD.

So, I was discussing the morphogenetic field with my client and we happened to talk about the one experiment that many people believe really proves the theory. It is described here as "British biologist Rupert Sheldrake took three short, similar Japanese rhymes — one a meaningless jumble of disconnected Japanese words, the second a newly-composed verse and the third a traditional rhyme known by millions of Japanese. Neither Sheldrake nor the English schoolchildren he got to memorize these verses knew which was which, nor did they know any Japanese. The most easily-learned rhyme turned out to be the one well-known to Japanese."

I basically listened to a CD that is a few years old, pulling it from my library of literally dozens of audio programs. This triggered a conversation with my client about M-fields and the Japanese experiment. At the airport, ready to fly home, I decided I was burned out on listening to CDs and wanted to read instead. So, I stepped into a bookstore and decided I would buy the first book that caught my eye.

The Book of Secrets won without contest ... the name, of course, is intriguing, as is the beautiful cover. I like Chopra, so I picked up the book and sat down to read it. I was only a few pages in when I felt goosebumps cover my body, because the text jumped out at me. There it was, right on the page: a reference to the experiment with the Japanese rhymes. I had not ever read that anywhere before, yet here it was, in a book I'd just purchased at random after having a discussion of this unique topic the day before.

Thank goodness I've learned to quiet my life to the point that I can listen to God. He gives us signs and clues if we're only willing to receive them.

How does that feel, to know that if you choose to overcome your own habits and create a healthy lifestyle, you might not just be impacting your own life, but making it easier for others to accomplish the same? Won't you join us and let just a few of you with the courage to succeed create a path for the others who feel trapped?

When it comes to training, no ifs or ands but certainly consider buts ... here's how to get ahead on your behind.

What a great role model we have ... Jack LaLane is still energetic and healthy at 91, and is on the attack against childhood obesity.

I say, "Amen," to the notion that Americans should focus less on dieting and more on healthier eating. Try these Five Keys to Healthy Eating to start with.

So, are we starting to get the picture that you can fight cancer with nutrition?

In Nevada, the schools may lose revenue but the students will more likely lose weight with no junk food available at school.

Just 500 calories per less than what you are used to can result in a pound of weight loss every week ... that's 50 pounds over a year. Here's 7 ways to cut 100 calories from each day.

Whatever you do, don't forget that strength training is an important element of fitness. Speaking of strength training, I got a great workout in during my trip to see my client. She was kind enough to invite me to a yoga class of hers. I spent an hour contorting my body into positions I never imagined possible ... and got a GREAT workout. In fact, my arms and legs were nice and sore the next day. I don't know the style that I practiced, but it focused heavily on core strength and incorporated some great isometric strengthening moves. I gave it a big thumbs up and am considering finding a local yoga class to attend with my wife here on St. Pete Beach.

My hat goes off to Veronica Atkins, who believes that the diabetes epidemic can be stopped and has contributed millions to do so.

Surprise! Getting rid of kids' natural form of school exercise (recess) actually worsens child obesity. What else would it do?

I hope you all remembered to adjust your clocks if you participate in daylight savings time. Apparently, the time change encourages childhood obesity but something tells me that people were rolling back their clocks a long time before obesity became the epidemic it is today. Heck, some doctors even believe that singing causes obesity. Will it ever end?

As the temperature jobs in the northern hemisphere, here are some tips for keeping fit through the cold months.

Want to really make an impact on the morphogenetic field? Anyone who invests in $800 or more of my products will receive a full 3-month online coaching package from me. That includes everything listed here — the e-mail consultations, training guide, nutrition, and more, for 12 weeks. You can pick up copies of the CDs, books, or other items (and note that several of them come with quantity discounts), give them away to those who will benefit (check with your tax advisor to see if it qualifies for you as a donation write-off) and receive coaching to boot. Who's up for the challenge? Just pick your products and I will AUTOMATICALLY sign you up if the total (before shipping) is $800 or more.

Enjoy the rest of this day and have a blessed and abundant week.

I'm leaving on da next plane ...

Good morning!

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make this post, as I'm traveling today ... I have a client in Iowa who I am flying out to train with. However, our flight out has been delayed an hour and Tampa Airport has complimentary wireless, so here we are ...

I'm continuing to receive very positive feedback about the "10 Fat Mistakes CD" ... I apprecaite all of you who have taken the time to write or call and share your thoughts. For those of you who are still sitting on the fence, you've got nothing to lose because I guarantee this CD ... grab it here. If you have friends or family who will benefit from this type of information, take a look at the volume discounts we offer when you order multiple CDs.

I know some of you still haven't tried out your free account with our online training system. This won't develop workouts, but lets you track them and gives you access to an online library of exercises including 3D illustrations. Check it out, the basic account is absolutely free.

Here's an interesting history lesson to start the day.

Have you ever heard of golfer's candy? Neither have I, but apparently proper exercise can keep you off of it.

In case you are wondering why the "bodybuilder menu" you are following from the latest fitness magazine is putting on more fat than muscle, consider that ideal meals are not the same for all athletes.

More tricks for healthy eating during the holidays.

I've been asked what to do with travel. This morning, I had a reward meal with my wife at the Cracker Barrel. That will fill me up until about November ... just kidding. I have a few Clif Bars in my backpack, the hotel I'm staying at serves a continental breakfast (I'll take advantage of the fruit and yogurt) and then it's going to be some type of salad with grilled chicken (that's universal and you can get it almost anywhere).

If you want to fly, check out Song airlines ... they actually have organic menus available on their flights! My wife and I were pleasantly surprised.

Did you know that vegetarians can also fight fires? This is an interesting story about four firefighters who switched from steaks to salads.

I watched an infomercial last night about a book that promises to cure diabetes. Has anyone heard of this? If any of you have actually purchased and applied this book, I'd love to hear back from you. I was very intrigued with what he had to say.

Here's a quick read about the dangers of trans fats and the fact they may be lurking in more of your food than you think! Don't use this as an excuse to eliminate all fats, however, because some fat is good for you.

It's important to understand the difference between weight and fat. It looks like the public is starting to understand body fat vs. body weight.

As Eagles coach Andy Reid found out, having a good coach is key for successful weight loss.

This article shares how losing weight is simple but difficult ... the rules are simple, but following them can be the hardest task of all.

Seems that everyone is in a stir over McDonald's adding nutrition facts to their food. However, they've always had this information available ... is it such a big deal that it's now on the wrapper?

Because I remember getting ice cream, cookies, and Big Gulps at 7-Eleven as a teenager, I find it very ironic that they now carry a sports nutrition line.

Well, it's about time to catch my plane, so until next time ...

Blessed be,

No more wind, lots of cool air here in Florida

The winds have died down and we are now enjoying the nice cold front. Windows are open and the air is nice and cool!

With Halloween just around the corner, how about some high-fibre Halloween linguine? Here's more on nutrition for trick-or-treaters. Of course, you'll also want to pick up your copy of the Healthy for the Holidays Seminar ASAP, just in time to survive the weekend of sweets and treats!

I'm very excited to announce that our online training software now features a completely, 100%, FREE option for users! You can log and track your workouts online at no cost whatsoever. You can see the differences between the free (Basic) accounts and other options right here.

One of the only methods proven by science to extend life is to drastically reduce calories. However, most of the research has been performed on rodents, not rodents ... so the question remains with the bare minimum diets (raw foods, fasts, etc) ... Is longer life really the payoff?

In case you were wondering, fat is not 'phat'!

Losing fat, on the other hand, can be a lot of fun. Pop in your copy of the 10 Fat Mistakes CD and then go for a hike!

An entrepreneur in Scotland has decided to launch a new business venture to highlight the importance of flagging fitness levels in school children.

Some of my clients despair over how much fat they have to lose ... "My gosh, I've got to lose over 60 pounds." Imagine if you lose SIX HUNDRED AND FIVE (605) pounds ... and still weighed 467?! Now that is a LOT of weight to lose ... but that is exactly the challenge that Patrick Deuel is taking on. Patrick, best of health and success ... you are a hero!

Are you a yo-yo dieter? Maybe it's time to stop giving away the responsiblity to the latest diet, and to take responsibility for your own lifestyle habits.

In the spirit of Lose Fat, Not Faith comes losing weight, gaining faith.

Reporting from the edge of a hurricane

We had quite the adventure yesterday.

The day was overcast from the outskirts of Wilma, but cool and pleasant. We found a few playgrounds and went there with Alyssa and had a blast. We slept in from the night before and did not go to church this weekend. We were not sure what to expect from the weather, and also have family down to visit and wanted to coordinate our day with them.

We ended up visiting my parents for dinner. My aunt and uncle from South Dakota were down (they are leaving today). We had Mom's chili (delicious) and some red wine. I helped my dad install his storm shutters. When it was time to have some dessert (key lime pie), the power went out. We turned on flashlights and lit candles and decided we should go home to see if we had power.

On the way back, Alyssa was freezing so I gave her my shirt to wrap around like a blanket. We picked up some extra batteries and candles and came home.

The night turned out to be uneventful. The lid blew off the trash can and a few palm fronds ended up in our yard, but that was it. In fact, my wife and daughter took a short walk this morning to the intercoastal and were amazed at how low the low tide really was. We opened the windows because the hurricane came at the same time as a "cold front" so now we have heavy gusts pumping 70 degree cool air through our home. It's quite pleasant.

Doreen's parents spent the night in a shelter. The eye of the storm is just over West Palm Beach as I write this, only a few miles south of where her parents are. Everyone believes it should be fine but again, better safe than sorry.

This weekend I received a copy of the new design for my Amazing Fat Loss Secrets Revealed 4-CD set. I LOVE IT! It's in a DVD style case, so it's narrow with double-sided trays to hold the discs. The fulfillment company did a fantastic job on the design and packaging ... these are shipping out to those of you who pre-ordered them and I look forward to your initial feedback. This is a set that you will be able to access immediately (you can listen to the audio online while waiting for the physical CDs to ship). One of the original guests on our teleseminar that this was recorded from said, "there is some very valuable information in there and the way you explain it is as usual done in a way that makes you want to listen and it is easy to understand."

The first wave of 10 Fat Mistakes CDs also arrived over the weekend, and I had my first customer write to say:

Jeremy,

You've done it again!

I received my 10 Fat Mistakes CD in the mail today. I have listened to it twice already. Needless to say, I love it! I like the way you touched on all the different parts of weight loss including the goals and scales, nutrition and diet pills. It cleared up a few things that I have been wondering about. I think this CD is a must for all people starting on a weight loss program, especially if they are new to all of this like me. And yep — I am guilty of the majority of these fat mistakes.

I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed this CD. I will be listening to it again and again. Great job.

I was very excited to hear that feedback. I'll be calling some on those in the U.S. who ordered it and should have received it already to confirm it reached its destination. I already have some people taking advantage of the bulk quantity discounts. If you work at a fitness center, run an e-Bay store or simply have plenty of friends and family who deserve this information, you can receive substantial discounts for bulk orders of the 10 Fat Mistakes CD.

For those of you going protein-crazy, consider that protein supplements may not be necessary. I agree, but if your goal is maximize muscle gain in a short period of time, it's hard to argue with the successful natural competitors who all insist on a hefty protein intake. Here's more on protein and some options if you feel the shakes will add value to your regimen.

Be careful, however, because your "muscle-building supplement" may have more than you bargained for ... according to this Olympic contender, his supplements had more than just protein in them.

When I tell my 60-year clients that in today's world they're only "middle-aged," I'm really not joking. Consider Bettie Wilson, who is sturdy and healthy at 115 years of age. You might find some interesting clues to the fountain of youth in this article about centenarians.

It appears that the media is asleep at the wheel. They claim that lean protein is new diet trend, but I will gladly show them my shelves full of books recommending lean proteins that date back decades. Are they that desperate for a new spin? I suppose they'll also say that muscle growth as a key to lose weight is a new concept as well?

I don't necessarily agree with all of these "Big Five" keys to good health, but it's a start. Sleep and relaxation are very often overlooked in weight management programs. Regular checkups are important, I guess, but spend some time and make sure you find a doctor interested in addressing the cause (nutrition, lack of exercise, etc) rather than simply eager to medicate the symptom.

Want to avoid inflammation? Look to your nutrition habits first. We have the healthy fats mentioned in this article. I also regularly take grapeseed extract which I'm told acts as a natural COX-2 inhibitor. Find out more about the products I personally use here.

If you are a vegetarian teen, or your children are shunning meat, read this article about the importance of "watching your diet" when you go vegan or vegetarian.

Halloween is just around the corner ... how about more healthy Halloween treats?

I knew it was inevitable ... the recommendations for sodium intake are now even less than before. However, everyone seems to focus on overall sodium and very few actually talk about the relationship between sodium and potassium. I believe this ratio is far more important than total intake, and the issue is less that so many people eat so much sodium, and more that so many people eat so little potassium (hint: it comes mainly from fresh vegetables and fruits). For more on sodium, read The Skinny on Salt.

Got headaches? Consider avoiding wheat for a few weeks ... it may just be the culprit.

If you think calorie-free is really calorie-free (i.e. diet soda), think again. Water ... it does a body good! Seriously, it looks like chronic diet soda drinkers are 10% more likely to become overweight than those who drink regular soda.

Do you consume a lot of seafood? There is a lot of controversy about mercury levels ... so just how safe IS seafood?

Having vision problems? Instead of contact lenses or glasses, consider changing your diet!

Every once in awhile, we get stories that are the type that make you want to slap your forehead and say, "Really? You don't say?" Personally, I believe a study linking McDonald's to obesity is one of them.

Thanks for joining me once again. Don't forget to share this resource with your friends. Until next time ...

Blessed be,

Jeremy Likness

It's make-up time!

Time for a mega-large update because I've missed a few days.

My apologies!

I had an appointment the other morning and was not able to run. I made it up last night. This was my first time running in the evening. What a difference it made! It was a lot hotter than my morning runs and my legs were aching before I was even halfway finished. However, I set out with determination and finished the run. It was great to get it done!

My wife and I both broke boards at a recent seminar. While I've seen them broken through force and anger, we were learning how to do it with ease ... just raise the hand, exhale gently and the hand goes through the board. It's more on the concept of Power vs. Force. This mother and daughter team also break boards ... and build stronger bonds.

How about a gadget that promises to "increase bone density, muscular strength, flexibility, metabolic rate, connective tissue regeneration, while reducing arthritic pain, muscle soreness and Cortisol, without having to exert much effort?" According to this article, it's out there.

Women, finally! There is an article that promises to unlock your myths while appreciating your complexity. It covers everything from tanning inside or outside, your metabolism, drinking caffeine before exercise and where stretch marks come from.

It's important to understand how important it is as parents to learn the nutrition needs of your children. Just because you are excited about eating raw foods or going on a juice fast doesn't mean it's appropriate for younger children. Babies are especially sensitive, as this unfortunate news item shares.

If you or someone close to you is prone to epileptic seizures, you'll receive value from this article about some natural ways to address the issue.

If you want a "perfect diet" then keep it simple, okay? Of course, you could always try to eat like a bushman.

Finally, I've found a nutritionist I can agree with. Check out Cyndi O'Meara who thinks chocolate can be healthy and loves a good cup of coffee. Wow, she could be my twin! I love the 80-20 rule ... 80% healthy, 20% enjoy yourself. Now isn't that refreshing advice?

The average person consumes 33 teaspoons of sugar every day, according to this article. For the real scoop on sugar, read The Sugar-Coated Truth, an excerpt from Lose Fat, Not Faith.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is developing a nutrition game for children ... unfortunately, it's based on the food pyramid, which in my opinion causes people to end up with a pyramid figure. Another sad fact: obesity in boys and girls has quadrupled in 25 years. One mom is doing what she can to get kids into the gym.

So how much exercise do we really need to lose weight?

Our favorite fat man walking is, well, still walking ... although he's taking a bit longer than planned.

I still recall meeting an 80-year old woman at my daughter's gymnastics class in Spearfish, South Dakota. We were talking about how dry the winter was (I was upset because I bought a season ski pass and only got to ski a few times). I was amazed when she shared that while she does not enjoy downhill skiing, she had started cross-country skiing at the age of 65! After 15 years, she finally decided that her legs couldn't take much more and was going to do some swimming instead. Ski walking is becoming more popular with seniors ... and take my word, it's good exercise!

If your health or improved quality of life aren't good enough motivators to lose weight, how about shedding pounds to improve your sex life?

Employers should take heed: poor nutrition harms productivity. It's time to swap those soda machines for bottled water and trade out the vending machines for a fresh foods deli.

If you're looking for a fun way to burn calories, how about dancing?

In other news, you might consider trading your hamburger for a glass of wine instead — obesity is a bigger risk to liver than alcohol.

Weight loss by telephone does work, according to a recent study.

If you're having trouble convincing your significant other of how important it is that you purchase an iPod, why not share that iPods can help you lose weight?

Did you know that Vitamin D may be linked with having a healthy mouth? That's news to me!

Don't forget that we now have our stock of the 10 Fat Mistakes CD ... pick up your copy and I will personally ship it to you within 1 to 2 business days!

Take care and blessed be,

Jeremy Likness

Adapt ... why I didn't jog yesterday (but will today)

Good morning!

Yesterday, I missed my run because we had a parent and teacher conference in the morning. I enjoy running without having to coat myself with an inch of sunscreen, so I decided to wait and run this morning instead ... I'm writing this just about 45 minutes before I head out.

Our conference went well. Alyssa is doing terrific and we were very pleased with the feedback. Alyssa was very pleased to have the day off!

It was very exciting for me to pick up my inventory of the 10 Fat Mistakes CD — I spent most of the evening packaging the discs that were already paid for to ship out today. FlowMotion, Inc. did simply a fantastic job that you'll see when you receive the disc. I am currently NOT charging shipping to anywhere in the world when you order before Midnight tonight.

Did you know that your eyes can predict your risk of stroke? Check out the other interesting facts from Time Magazine.

Low-carb is definitely not dead ... and now they're saying it may help Alzheimer's! A major newspaper feels they've tapped into the new diet trend with their article about protein, but we've been talking about protein for decades now. Their lead in is that "research presented here Sunday shows that eating enough ... protein-rich foods helps people feel full longer." No, really? They're just not figuring that out?

Synephrine, also known as "Bitter Orange," has been a popular substitute for or addition to ephedra for a decade now. In fact, a few companies refused to market ephedra when it first became popular and touted Synephrine as a powerful substitute with less risk involved. Now, a university study suggests it can raise your heart rate and blood pressure when you also take caffeine. It also claimed it is less effective than ephedra at helping you lose weight. We've known that for years, too, but it doesn't stop marketing companies from pushing their kitchen-sink products, does it?

Here's a fairly straightforward approach to weight loss along with a discussion of the difference between weight loss and fat loss.

Something we do with our coaching is address the mindset aspect of weight loss. This is important, as this article shares, because stress and depression can have a direct impact on your weight.

Everyone who shouts, "Don't use the scale — it lies!" should read this article about how effective the scale can be for weight loss.

Getting enough Vitamin D? It may lower your risk of gum disease.

Asking for prayers

Let's start today with some thanks, appreciation, and above all, prayers.

Two of my clients had episodes this past week and could use the power of healing for those close to them. Please hold Don and Ed in your hearts and prayers this week. I believe in the power of prayer ... there is no need to know the details, just that your warm thoughts and powerful prayers can make a difference.

Thank you for your thoughts, and now for some inspiration. Check out this amazing story about a teen who lost 400 pounds!!!

What do you know about hormone therapy? The article asks the question ... "at what cost?"

A Harley-Davidson owner and enthusiast did more than ride his hog ... he rode the exercise bike to lose 25 pounds in 2 1/2 months, and is now sharing his exciting story with his employees.

Here's a great article about the SAD Diet (Standard American Diet) even though it doesn't call it that. Some interesting statistics to chew on. The last thing we need is another diet, but it seems every week some new plan tries to fill the void left by Atkins such as the recent Superfoods diet plan. It looks to be fairly practical and balanced, but then it isn't really sharing anything new. While we're on the subject of diets, can diets help with pain relief? What about eating bread to lose weight?

As lean as we'd like to think the French are (ever heard of the French paradox?), it appears that now over 1 out of 10 French are obese, with female obesity slightly higher than males. That's still nothing compared to the United States, where two out of three are either overweight or obese.

If you want to drive in Qatar, be sure you're in shape before you try to get your license — new laws for drivers' fitness test are being passed.

Over 4,000 kids and parents prove that fitness is important to these families who turned out for an event in California.

Here is some information about nutrition for toddlers.

For tasty treat that provides great nutrition, check out nut oils.

They say that eating healthy is costly but they're just comparing grocery bills. If you also compared the hospital bills, you'll probably find it's the other way around. Eating unhealthy is far more costly.

That's it for now ...

With thanks and gratitude, I post today ...

It appears that the site is currently down. I'm working with the IT staff to look into this. I give thanks for an abundant year. I have been truly blessed in so many areas.

I'm excited about Monday's guest. It's a long time client of mine who is going to share with you the triggers that have empowered him to transform. Don't miss out on this opportunity to hear Don share his success, live, as well as the short question and answer session at the end! Visit our teleseminar site for details.

In the department of synchronicity, I had someone write me with a very powerful message. This is someone I met in March at a seminar in Los Angeles. He was not able to join us at the seminar we just went to (the end of September). He was in the bookstore on the Thursday we were in the event, learning about command, control, power, and force. At that same moment, he picked up a book ... and bought it ... and read it that weekend. By now you may have already guessed, the book as Power vs. Force. He was impressed with the power of a connection that spanned the continent ... that he bought this book in North Carolina at the same time we were viewing a slide of it in Los Angeles. Now that's powerful!

In the news today ... it looks like they may consider drug-testing teens to curb steroid use. Ironically, the article uses the statistic that 1 out of 8 high school boys reported using supplements or hormones ... what does protein powder have to do with steroids?

Want diet advice? How about asking your DNA? It sounds better than the so-called Brazilian diet pills, that can cause you to lose more than weight ... like maybe your job?

As I mentioned in the October newsletter, Halloween is just around the corner. As this article suggests, Halloween can be dangerous time for diet! Why not scare up a few healthy items to supplement the Halloween treats?

So, did J. Scott Wilson lose his first 100 pounds? Hey, I didn't know about the first 99, either. Congratulations, Mr. Wilson!

Guess what the sixth largest cause of injury in the United States is? Well, I'll give you a hint ... it injures over 500 people every day. Give up? It's fitness machines! Are you still going to turn down that offer to have a trainer show you how to use it?

How about some fun with nutrition?

What is "a perfect body?" I'm not sure, but a mother of three is intent on building one.

Command, control, power, force ...

I had an amazing run yesterday. Was "in flow" and enjoyed every step. In the past, I've been far more aggressive with increasing my distances. This time, I'm taking it easy and it is making it more pleasurable. I've already added a significant distance but don't feel like I'm pushing myself to the limit. I'm up to 36 push-ups per workout, that will increase to 40 next week. We'll see how far I can take those before I start to plateau or slow ... I'm guessing I won't. The routine seems simple to some, but as long as I continue to enjoy it, that's what I'll do.

I'm glad that doctors agree cardiovascular fitness gains can come without pain.

In this month's newsletter, I'll be talking about command and control (the audio from earlier this week will be released soon, too) ... it is interesting because I used gravity as an example of power and force. When you drop something, power takes over and gravity does the work. When you carry it up the stairs, you apply your own force to resist gravity. How many other "fields" do we resist when in fact we want to use their power to move along?

Speaking of gravity, one of the first articles I found this morning says that gravity is not our friend! I disagree, because I happen to like gravity, but the article has good information about resistance training so I shared it anyway. In the article, she mentions lifting kids. What about kids lifting? According to doctors, kids CAN lift weights after all. We are finally leaving the Dark Ages and the myths about stunted growth, etc. For a GREAT book on how to develop lifting programs for your teenagers, check out Strength Training for Young Athletes.

Here's a sample routine using the FITT principle (frequency, intensity, time, and type).

Remember how excited the media was about yoga burning fat a few weeks ago? Now they are telling us it's a stretch to say it's a fat burner.

The so-called "experts" continue to debate whether or not pasta has a place in a healthy diet, but villagers in China 4,000 years had no problem with it. A small pile of well-preserved noodles was uncovered during a recent excavation. I'm sure the picture doesn't do the original dish justice.

Some people are literally beating themselves up over weight loss ... sometimes people take it too far (bruise to lose?)

Alcohol containers may be receiving a face-lift with the addition of nutrition labels. Some people think you can drink as much as you like because the labels don't mention calories! Of course, those in denial will simply say, "It's non-fat and low-carb!"

Vitamin E is good for your skin, says this article. If you are looking for quality skin care, check out our paraben-free skin care line.

Our monthly e-Zine will be released sometime after midnight tonight ... it will be an exciting issue! If you are not signed up for our newsletter, you can do it here.

More news, volume discounts, Livin' La Vida ...

Gooood morning!

Almost time for a run.

The SuperSlow method is getting quite a bit of press lately, with claims that you can burn calories and build muscle with only intense, once-a-week workouts.

Obesity is probably due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. I have yet to meet someone who can't shed extra pounds, but for some people it certainly might be a little more difficult. Recently, researchers conducted a study and found that the muscles of obese people may be programmed to collect fat. Not to worry, because exercise does the reverse and helps the muscles become more efficient at burning fat.

If you're one of those people who justifies grabbing a bag of chips or eating a candy bar because "I'll burn it off later" then this article will help you understand just how much to burn. If you are having trouble balancing concerns about fitness and nutrition with your busy schedule, you're not alone ... this article addresses how college students balance healthy eating with their busy lives. However you integrate nutrition into your busy lifestyle, don't overlook the power of healthy fats, like fish oil.

Very exciting news. Friend and inspiration Jimmy Moore has released his new book, Livin' La Vida Low-Carb, about his successful quest to lose 180 pounds. Jimmy has a blog called Livin La Vida Low-Carb that I recommended several months ago. I have not read this book myself but am first in line for a signed copy and will post my review once I'm done reading it. I personally do not believe low-carb is the only way to go, but certainly recognize that for many people this has been a life-changing solution and you only have to read some of Jimmy's blog to see how it has impacted his life! (If you would like a signed copy of his book, check here).

You don't have to lose 180 pounds to see results ... according to this article, even a little bit goes a long ways.

Dr. Marla Shapiro writes that aging is inevitable, but lifestyle can help it be graceful. Many of the subscribers and clients I speak with are in their 50s or 60s. We joke around because in today's world, 60 is simply middle-aged.

In the continuing debate between slow "fat-zone" cardio and high intensity training, I must agree that cardio fitness doesn't require intense workouts (but they sure can be fun when you crank up the speed!)

It's good to see that pharmaceutical companies aren't the only ones lobbying. Some people are rallying behind the power of the orange. I hear other fruits are seeking representation.

If you enjoyed Lose Fat, Not Faith and are interested in purchasing copies for friends, family, associates, as gifts or because you have your own website or store, feel free to contact me. I have quantity discounts available through the Lose Fat, Not Faith website, and sometimes post these on e-Bay as well. In fact, as of this writing, there are three auctions for Lose Fat, Not Faith active at e-Bay, one for the CD set, one for a signed paperback, and one for a lot of 10 books.

Take care!

There are three of you ...

I had a great time writing the new article this morning.

One of my clients was asking about exercise routines and when/why to change them. While resistance training is important for muscle, it is also important for strong, healthy bones. The bones actually reinforce themselves in a vector based on the exercises you perform. Allowing more exercises means more vectors and stronger bones. One book I consider a "bible" of resistance training is Essentials of Strength Conditioning and Training. For more on how training impacts muscle mass, read this article. Don't just lift weights for strong bones or to lose weight ... lift weights to stay young! Just make sure you use proper form.

One of the chapters in Lose Fat, Not Faith focuses on how to read labels (nutrition facts and ingredients lists). This article does a great job of explaining some of these terms and points out that if you add a serving of "reduced-fat Oreos" to your menu, you'll have to exercise over 40 minutes to balance the extra calories! For more on reading labels, check out Food Labels 101.

Getting ready to tackle healthy eating? Here are a few tips to kickstart your program.

The babies are speaking up. They will no longer settle for bland baby food. It's time to spice up your baby's diet. Before you put your child on a diet, it's important to seek advice from your physician, right? Well, that depends. A physician isn't necessarily a dietician. In fact, many physicians received their training on nutrition decades ago when we thought low-fat diets and cardio were the ultimate way to stay in shape. Some physicians stay current with nutrition science, others do not. Many are educated through marketing campaigns by pharmaceutical companies that would rather have them sell more products than address your lifestyle, so it might be better to skip the physician and find a nutritionist instead.

Just a few weeks ago, several outspoken scientists and doctors complained that we are making too much of this "obesity epidemic." Today, however, studies are linking obesity to everything from dementia to congestive heart failure.

Here's some food for thought. We are already in October. The most challenging months are coming for most people, with the holidays around the corner. Are you going to use the excuse most people do and say, "I'll start a program after the holidays?" Or are you ready to step into your power and create a program that keeps you strong through the holidays while still having fun and enjoying grandma's cookies? Most of you will do more damage and gain an extra 10 pounds to lose come New Year's. You can start the process right now.

You deserve a copy of "Healthy for the Holidays," a seminar we designed specifically to empower you through this time of year.

Hiring me now will take us through January. As my own gift for the first three people who deserve it, I will add another month of e-mail consultations to whatever coaching package you choose AND throw in a copy of the Healthy for the Holidays 2-CD set (this is in addition to the paperback and the 5-CD set as well). You'll be receiving 16 months of coaching, which means we will work together to set your New Year's Resolutions AND act upon them ... but more importantly, we'll keep from making them more difficult by helping you stay strong through the holidays. I'm announcing this here before I send it to my mailing list, so if you deserve to reserve your spot, simply visit this page to set up a 15-minute consultation and we'll find out whether you are one of the three ready to take on coaching. Be sure to consult my coaching page and look at the available packages (they are at the bottom of the page) before you sign up so that you know what your commimtment will be.

The holidays will fill my coaching calendar so right now is the time to be able to reserve a spot without waiting.

Momentum

Momentum.

That's what I've created.

Most people don't "stay in the game" long enough to allow their momentum to carry them forward.

It doesn't matter what the project is.

With network marketing, for example, I put in a tremendous amount of effort in the beginning for close to zero pay. Most people would say, "That's insane" and give up after just a few months. Of course, that's why most people don't earn residual income through network marketing. Me? I put in my effort, had faith in the fact that I met enough successful network marketing entrepreneurs to know it can work, and created my momentum.

Momentum is not easy. In the beginning, you have to supply all of the force. But the idea is to move beyond force into power. Want force? Slap one hand with the other. That is force. Want power? Raise one hand over the other, then simply release it. Let gravity take it down. SMACK! That's power. These concepts are explained in more detail in the book Power Vs. Force by David Hawkins. I have to warn you, though ... these are radical ideas and many of you may not be ready to accept them.

With my company, I created momentum. Then, it came time to focus on building Natural Physiques™. I stopped focusing so much on my network marketing business. What happened? Unlike most businesses that you take a break from and start to watch your income dwindle, my network marketing income has remained the same. I haven't experienced as much growth without my focus on the business, but I created enough momentum that momentum itself now carries the business forward. It is in a state of power, so I no longer require force to keep it going. I enjoy collecting the checks each week as if I have a huge bank account throwing off interest dividends every week.

The momentum I'm referring to in this post, however, is not network marketing momentum. It's fitness momentum.

When I began running again, just a few weeks ago, I plugged my information into our online personal trainer and was given a routine of bodyweight exercises and running.

The first week or two required force. It was an effort to wake up, to focus on the workout, and to get it done. It was an effort to go outside, do my breathing routine and then hit the pavement. I had to supply the desire and the force to get going.

Now, only three weeks later, I've already built momentum. You see, last night, something interesting happened. Instead of thinking, "Oh boy, it's Monday again ... time to workout," I felt something different. I felt a rush of excitement. I even had butterflies in the pit of my stomach. I thought, "YES! Tomorrow I get to run again, and this time I'm going even farther. How exciting!"

You see, now I am in my power. I no longer require force. I am so excited about the results of my runs that the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment carries me into the next workout. I no longer must apply force.

Can you create your own momentum? Of course you can ... but it takes time.

When I first began my journey to fitness, it took me nine months to create momentum and step into my power. After that, my nutrition still required force and it was another few years of force before I stepped into power. But I did not give up. I had the courage to keep going. And in the end, that's what it's all about ... no perfection, but the courage to focus on progress and keep going.

I just got off the phone with John Milton Fogg. We were discussing an article for his Network Marketing Magazine about health ... if you are in the business and don't receive this magazine, why not? It's only a few bucks a month and you get access to articles, audio, and more. It took me about 2 seconds to sign up when I saw it.

In health and wellness news, our first article today attempts to answer the question, Have you ever wondered if weight training is right for you?

Many obese kids are too embarrassed to exercise, but a new project is getting parents involved.

Here's an article out of Australia for our kettlebell fans.

"Black Americans are about twice as likely to die of diabetes-related complications as are whites," according to the Orlando Sentinel. Read more about the Soul Food Pyramid healthy diet.

Some people get upset when I share that many workout routines and diets are just trends and fads that will eventually fade. Here's a brief history of diet fads.

Having trouble finding the time to workout? What about midnight? Franchises like Anytime Fitness are attacking "time" as an excuse not to get to the gym.

This article says it best: be healthy, not just thin.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who lost his hair after shedding weight. It seems some dieters lose more than weight ... they also lose their hair. I assure you it was not my training or nutrition that took care of my receding hairline ... it was a razor.

All things audible, the Red Diet, plants with sunscreen and more

Whew!

Did some major spring cleaning on the site today.

It's been bothering me that the podcasts are not easy to navigate and find. So, I rearranged the Become Your Best Podcast site so that it is far easier to access the information. All audios are on a single page and you can search (it will take a few days for the search to activate). I've had to consistently increase the bandwidth of the site. For example, one audio that is 10 megs long was downloaded 2,500 times. That's over 20 gigs of data just for that one interview. No wonder we've been paying for bandwidth!

I believe this is a great service for listeners and while I've had a few people suggest I turn it into a subscription service, I want to maintain the balance of quality, free information with the existing paid services and products. My compromise is the honor system: there is now an option to contribute any amount out of gratitude for us keeping this free. We'll see how that works out.

In my own town of St. Petersburg, FL I found a great article about the magic formula for exercise: desire plus discipline.

Kayla Gray says there is a cure for obesity.

If you need a little incentive to improve your health, consider becoming a Catholic priest in New York. They are offering $500 to priests who quit smoking or lose weight.

I'm not sure what to do with this one. Out of Russia (with love?) is a book about the Unclassified Diet of Kremlin Politicians. This diet is apparently what their politicians used to maintain top shape and was "borrowed" from nutrition programs developed for American military and astronauts. Does this mean they eat C-rations and long rats (if you're confused, there is a glossary here).

As America scrambles to understand obesity, we find articles blaming everything from fast food and television to school lunches and modern transportation. Add the cost of fruits and vegetables to this list, because a recent study showed that children who live in neighborhoods with expensive produce are more likely to gain excess weight.

Ever wonder why plants don't get sunburns? I never did, but someone had to come up with the idea to discover that Vitamin B6 is a natural sunscreen for plants.

Here are some new thoughts on sleep, weight loss, and diabetes.

Finally, if you're looking for a fun way to get fit and trim, why not skate your way to weight loss?

Warmly,

Jeremy Likness

URGENT! This is VERY important ...

How does the headline make you feel?

Many people who are otherwise "asleep at the wheel" will quicky click on a headline like that to see what it is all about.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could create a sense of urgency with everything you do, to produce more results in less time (and possibly with less work?) Today during my run (in case you didn't notice, I develop of a lot of my material during my jogs) I had my own sense of urgency. It was overcast and raining and while the last time it did this, I still applied sunscreen, today I decided to just don a bandana and go for it. Of course, as I was nearing the beach, the sun began to peek out from beneath the clouds. I was not about to use this as an excuse to finish my run early, but I certainly picked up the pace a bit. I could see the thickness of the clouds and gauge about how long it would take for the sun to come completely out, or so I thought.

As I picked up my pace with this new sense of urgency, it occurred to me that I shouldn't depend on the sun to create a faster pace. Why not do this any way? Either my body can handle, or not. If it can, great. If not, then it doesn't matter if I am risking a sunburn by being out there. Interesting thought, isn't it?

Why do so many people wait until their back is against the wall to create urgency? If there's one thing I've learned, it's that successful people always have urgency.

Don't confuse urgency with panic or fear. These are emotions that create irrational thoughts and reactions (as opposed to urgent actions). In fact, our level of emotional intelligence really depends on how often we connect it with events and thoughts. Sometimes, for example, you might wake up feeling depressed or sad. This is an emotion, and with a command of emotional intelligence you'll respect the emotion, let it run its course, and move on. Too many people, however, want to connect the emotion with something. This creates a trigger effect. Maybe I connect it with the fact that I had slight cold the night before. Suddenly, a cold becomes a reason to become depressed. Now, that's not very emotionally intelligent, is it?

If I were in panic or fear, my only thoughts would be on how fast I could get back, how hot the sun is, and worry about what might happen. Instead, with a sense of urgency, I simply picked up my pace and accepted that I will arrive ... precisely when I arrive! This empowered me to observe what was going on around me. For example, there was a trailor landscaping the beach. Every once in awhile it would come out close to the water and inscribe a huge circle before returning to the loose sand to pack it down. I was able to watch this process and realize the landscaper was marking off zones to flatten. He would inscribe a circle, drive down several yards, inscribe another circle, then use that as a reference to flatten the sand in the loose section farther from the water. Would I have been able to make this connection if I was frantically running to my goal?

Our associations create vibrations that impact our environment. You can choose to create a positive feedback loop or a negative one. Consider, for example, the flock of seagulls on the beach. The sand near the area I run onto the beach had not been packed yet. I knew there had been plenty of foot traffic, so I'd find a sort of "road" through the loose sand. I found it filled with birds.

Normally, our expectation would be for the birds to take flight. We often project a fear due to our own anticipation of how the birds will react. They sense this fear and do just what we command — they flee with fright. I wasn't worried about what the birds were going to do. I was simply content to let my thoughts flow and feel my body move closer to my goal. As I approached the flock, they simply wandered out of the way and observed, close enough to touch. My energy was focused elsewhere, so they had nothing to fear.

How often do you drive others away with the energy you project?

As I returned home, my awareness observed another interesting fact about myself. As I run to the beach, there are certain splits in the sidewalk and path that have two choices. I often run under trees or between shrubs on the way out. On the way back, I noticed I was consistently finding the most open space. Why is this?

I believe that I created an obstacle for myself. Running out, I'm not focused on the end or the process, but just getting to that turning point. This means I'm focused on my running, breathing, posture, and all of those "in the head things." When I hit that halfway mark and turn around, there is relief. You know the expression, "past the hump ... it's all downhill from here" and suddenly the run becomes easier because I'm coming home. I no longer fear the vast expanse of open space that shows me how far the destination is ... instead, my thoughts shift to home and how much closer it's becoming.

Wouldn't it be interesting if I were to break this pattern, and not let the physical course of the run limit my experience? What if I began imagining coming closer to home, even as I jog away from it, because ultimately that is where my run will take me? How will that change the quality of my run?

Thanks for allowing me to share these musings. It appears there is an inverse relationship between the amount of "struggle" in my run, and the extent that I allow my intuition and thoughts to flow. The more I am creative while I run, the less difficult the run is. Now isn't that interesting?

I'm so excited we have a new buzzword to throw around: nutrigenomics! Amazing that in today's society of quick fixes and a massive pharmaceutical lobby that you can actually read something like this: "Nutrigenomics is a relatively new science that explores the interplay between genetic make-up and how the nutrients found in certain foods could assist in the prevention of specific diseases." Wow, so diet really does impact disease ... and maybe it is okay to address the cause and not simply medicate the symptom?

Parents will be interested in this study that concludes packed lunches are no better than school meals. However, there is a major flaw. The study only compares packed lunches with school menus ... and that means the parents who like to pack processed foods, snack items, sugars, candy bars, and soda pops are lumped in with the rest of the results. Personally, my only desire for packing my daughter's lunch is to provide a balanced, nutritious meal. I'd like to see a comparison between the health-conscious parents' lunches versus the school menus and THEN draw my conclusions.

How to reach any destination, all of the time ...

Another run, another day.

Yesterday I couldn't help but continue to expand on the metaphor of the beach. I won't stretch this too far, but here's what happened: I had slowed down, even walked a bit, on the longer course I was running in the past. This time I made the decision that I was going to finish without stopping. That conviction comes with a bit of freedom because even when I felt like it was tough to continue running, I would simply slow down my pace.

That's when it "clicked" because so many people in life want to get there fast. In fact, this pressure to do things quickly and perfectly often results in giving up and going nowhere! I've had many clients tell me that they get frustrated with the first setback and decide that it's pointless to go on.

Consider this, however: if you are heading from point A to point B, the only way you won't reach it is if you stand still or go backwards. What I mean is that on the run, it's okay if I want to take some "active rest" and simply slow down my pace. Even if I am moving at a crawl, I am still heading in the right direction. I know I will eventually make it. On the other hand, if I decide that it's too tough and collapse in the sand or go running back to where I came from, point B will forever elude me.

It's okay to give yourself permission to do just a little now. Switch from soda to diet soda or diet soda to sparkling water. Get a better brand of wheat bread or trade in that frozen dinner (all calories, almost no nutrition) for something a little fresher. Even these smaller steps will carry you forward and take you closer to your destination.

For the network marketers reading this, let me introduce you to Diamond Destinations. What an amazing game! I know the couple who developed it. There are people we met this weekend who said they spent HOURS playing it. I have yet to organize a team here but am excited about the game. There is a presentation on the site that shows you how the game is played. In fact, even if you are not a network marketer but are interested in learning about the industry, this is a great way to do it.

It is a similar concept to another very popular game:

This game is played mainly by people interested in generating additional streams of income and who would like to create more than extra money, but really want the time freedom to go with it.

Many people ask me if I think network marketing is the best way to generate an additional stream of income. Personally, I believe in multiple streams of income (MSI) and so I say network marketing is a great asset when done correctly (too many people assume they can just get rich quick without having to learn how to run a true business), but don't overlook real estate investments, stocks, and the other abundant resources available as well.

In today's health and wellness news I found this article that highlights the importance of taking into account how vitamins and minerals interact. For example, just taking calcium isn't necessarily the solution for getting more calcium for your body ... calcium requires magnesium, Vitamin D, and other cofactors for the body to utilize it.

Red meat has come under attack by several groups and studies over the years, but I have never read a study that qualifies the type of red meat, i.e. comparing the lean free range buffalo meat to the high-fat, steroid-pumped mainstream beef. I find it interesting that a new study mentions red meat but also links processed meats to pancreatic cancer.

Here are some healthy recipes included with a "game plan for slimming down."

Just like other addictions, overweight and obesity can be met with denial. Some people simply refuse to admit there is a problem and keep piling on the loose, baggy clothes as they pile more food on their plate. It wasn't until Juanita Ferreira felt she was having a heart attack that she decided to do something about the extra 120 pounds she was carrying.

If you're ready to throw in the towel for your workouts, don't. Instead, use your towel to workout.

The other day I was spending time with a woman for her free assessment. We were discussing nutrition and she mentioned that she was eating a lot of junk food because of the hurricanes. "After all, the only food that keeps is junk, right?" I didn't agree. There are plenty of healthy options available even when the power is out, and finally there is an article that covers them. This is a great time, for example, to stock up on the bars and shake powders.

Don't forget to check out our latest products. Amazing Fat Loss Secrets should be ready to ship by today and you will have instant access to the online audio while you wait for the CDs to arrive. 10 Fat Mistakes will be shipping in the next week or two.

The holidays are rapidly approaching. The first to come is Halloween, so read these tips on how to how to have a healthy Halloween. Then, pick up my Healthy for the Holidays 2-CD set, based on a seminar I conducted to empower you to enjoy your Thanksgiving and Christmas without gaining a dozen pounds. I fondly refer to this as stuffing the turkey, not your face.

We just upgraded our online personal training site so be sure to check out the information there. I am enjoying using the system to not only generate workouts, but to log the ones I do. Unlike a lot of training programs, this software lets you create your own workouts and key those in so that you can track your progress no matter how you decide to train.

It's all about the breath

I'm writing this just before I head out for my midweek jog. It has cooled significantly here (that means 80s instead of 90s) and there is quite a breeze. It is slightly overcast today, so I may not receive as much sun on this run. I will still wear sunscreen because I have sunburned on cloudy days before!

As a health coach I've learned that connecting with people on a deeper level means synchronicity begins to operate at a more powerful level. What do I mean by synchronicity? I mean that my clients, even though they are spaced around the United States and in some cases other countries, and even though they have different genetics and programs and challenges to face, all connect at a subconscious level. If one client has been struggling with avoiding binges, then I have several others who do as well. When one client has a tremendous breakthrough, it seems to be reflected in the experience of others.

Yesterday, because of the learning experience I had over the weekend, I covered the magic of breathing with a few clients. I have a special exercise that takes no more than 10 to 15 minutes that gets my blood flowing in the morning, stretches my limbs, exercises certain body parts, trains my abdominal muscles and most importantly encourages proper breathing. While I have the loose guidelines written down, I have not yet created illustrations or a video for this. I do take all of my guests through a session at the Become Your Best Seminar.

The breath is something that has fascinated humans throughout the ages. There are many religions that connect breath with the essence of life and even give it a magical, supernatural quality. As with many discoveries, what the ancients learned through intuition many thousands of years ago is now becoming validated through science. For example, most of your brain function takes place at a subconscious level ... about 17% of your brain matter is devoted to conscious activity, the rest is subconscious. Even more interesting is that the 17% accounts for only 2 to 4 percent of total activity!

We are inundated with millions of bits of information each second, but our conscious minds only have the ability to process a few thousand of those pieces of information. Some things are more obvious, such as the fact that when you first sit in a chair, you notice the sensation of it pressing against your body, and then you forget about it. You are not constantly aware of that pressure in most cases even though the pressure and sensation is still there. The part we are concerned with, however, is our blind spot. You can consciously evoke an understanding of your blind spot by putting a dot on a piece of paper and moving it away from your face while looking straight ahead until the dot disappears.

To understand this more, however, instead of a black dot on a white piece of paper, try putting a black square with a white dot inside of it. Repeat the experiment and what you will get is a solid black box. Your brain, when it loses sight of that space, simply fills it in with what "makes sense" (either white, if it is a lone point, or black, if the point is in a black square). It's that "sense" that can get us into trouble because what makes sense is simply what we've conditioned ourselves to through patterns of habit.

How many blindspots exist in life? In other words, how many symbols, opportunities, people, or events happen right in front of our face, but because we are not conditioned to accept them, the brain fills it in with the background and we lose sight of it completely? You may have more blindspots in your life than you believe.

In the book, Blink! by Malcolm Gladwell, he describes an experiment where there are four decks. Two decks are blue and two are red. Gamblers are instructed to pull cards from the decks and based on the cards, may end up winning money or losing money. Some cards are bad and cause greater loss than others. The decks are loaded, and usually after about 60 - 70 cards, individuals realize that all of the bad cards are in a certain color deck and begin pulling exclusively from the other deck. It gets even more interesting, however, because when the individuals are hooked to equipment that measures their pulse rate, moisture on their skin, and other factors, something interesting happens. After only about 10 cards, their pulse changes and their hands begin to sweat when they reach for the "bad" deck. It still takes them another 60 cards, however, to consciously recognize what their subconscious mind has already figured out!

This takes us back to the breath. The breath is one of those few functions that are both conscious and subconscious. If you don't think about breathing, your body will still do it. However, the instant you focus your thoughts on your breath (as you may suddenly do now as you are reading this) you are in the driver's seat and can control your breath. You can even control it to the point that you fight your own survival instinct and hold your breath until you pass out (don't do this).

So there may be a very scientific reason why the breath is so important. It bridges the gap between what we known and control and what we know but don't know we know. Are you with me? Many of your habits of self-sabotage are triggered by what you have fed your subconscious.

Try this exercise each day for a week and then let me know your results by posting a comment here or writing to me directly. Sit down in a comfortable, relaxed position, close your eyes, and relax. Then, focus on your breath. Do this for 10, 20, even 30 minutes. The goal is simple: be aware of your breath without controlling it. The key is to watch your breath go in and out, but not to intervene. It is very difficult at first, but as you bridge the gap between your conscious and subconscious, you may suddenly see into a blindspot you did not know existed.

We'll cover this concept more in-depth when I speak about command versus control during our next Become Your Best Teleseminar.

Being able to "let go" is about living in the present. It means you disconnect from the past and stop allowing it to weigh down your choices, and you stop worrying about the future because you are the one who will create it. It comes as no surprise to me that the first article I found today was about walking and how it is a wonderful activity to practice being present. There are no accidents.

Lisa Ryckman shares her view on negatives or the downward movement in weightlifting.

One popular supplement I'm often asked about is CLA (conjugated linolenic acid). This article reflects my own opinion that not enough research has been performed on humans, and the cost far outweighs any potential benefits. If you do invest in CLA, don't be duped ... there are many versions of this fat and the only one consistently shown to impact fat loss is the one patented under the name Tonalin™, so make sure your product has that word on the bottle.

Here's on story about how to get your 'skinny jeans' back. The key? Giving up sugar, alcohol, burgers, and fries. The question is ... did he truly give it up, or will he be joining the yo-yo club? It depends on whether he went on a crash diet or if he views this truly as a lifestyle change.

Once again, nutrition is tied to degenerative disease. High fat and sugar diet raises liver disease risk, while an anti-cancer diet helps fight prostate cancer.

Have you noticed how everyone is asked to "fight" their condition? The cancer is battled. What would the process be like if someone choosed to "ease out of the cancer" or "peacefully disassociate with the tumors"? Do we create more of a struggle and inject our own pain into the process by making the journey a stigma? I had a very close friend die after a "battle" with cancer ... yet I also have friends who are in complete recession and never once mention the idea of struggle, but instead share that it was an experience that rewarded them with a greater appreciation for life. Pain truly does begin not in the body, but in the mind.

Have you ever called yourself an "all-or-nothing" person? Is it possible that even this belief about yourself is subject to change, if you so choose?

For those of you not willing to change and give up your fast food, the author of this article claims you can still live quite healthy on the road.

If you are looking to maintain or even gain muscle while dropping fat, be sure to take it nice and slow.

In our obesity corner, we start with the announcement that vast majority of adults are at risk of becoming obese despite how fit they are now. Thank goodness those of you reading this aren't the majority but instead are individuals with the power and freedom to choose not to follow this statistic.

Is it an oxymoron to read that McDonald's puts spotlight on nutrition?

One feature of our online training software that I love is the ability to create new workouts. It doesn't just function as a workout guide, but also allows me to enter and track my own routines. When entering a routine, I give it a name and a description. I can then add exercises and it will automatically pull in the 3D illustration along with the description and video. I can then set up how many sets and repetitions I want. By entering my max (i.e. how many push-ups I can do or how much weight I can lift) it automatically adjusts the workout based on these variables.
