Is it true that stretching before weight training is dangerous?

I disagree completely. I think the most critical time to stretch is before lifting. In fact, one of the top coaches in the world - one with decades of experience and who is well-known for his knowledge of injury prevention and rehabilitation – is who I learned this concept from.

No, don't stretch a sore muscle. Warm up, then stretch ... 10 minutes of cardio can do the trick. However, the notion that stretching leads to more injuries because the body is looser and more flexible than it needs to be? Huh? How exactly does this lead to injury, and who decides what "it needs to be?"

Of course, all studies aside, I have been making this recommendation to clients for years and almost always I hear the report back that recovery seems to be a little quicker and there is less pain, popping, etc.
