I love quick and easy meals, especially ones I can make a lot of and eat throughout the week.

Chili is one of my favorite one pot meals, but traditional chili has a lot of fat. Using ground turkey helps, but there is still saturated fat and cholesterol in the chili.

I developed this chili recipe to be almost fat free, yet rich in protein and nutrition to support fat loss and building muscle.

Fat Loss Chili Ingredients

  • 2 cups green or black lentils
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 large cans of tomatoes (sauce or chunky)
  • 2 packets of chili seasoning (I use one hot and one mild)
  • 2 cans of black beans
  • 1 can of chic peas
  • 3 beef flavored bouillon cubes
  • 2 cups chopped spinach

Vegetarian Muscle Building Chili Directions

  1. Bring lentils, water, and bouillon cubes to a boil. Add onion, reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes.
  2. Stir in tomatoes, seasoning, black beans, and chic peas. Simmer an additional 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Add the spinach and simmer for another 5 minutes. Serve.

(Optional) Sprinkle some shredded sharp cheddar cheese on top and  a tablespoon of low fat greek yogurt.

Cooking Tips

This chili recipe makes a thick hearty chili, if you want it thinner just add more tomatoes or water. The little bit of cheese and yogurt adds a little fat which is good if you want all the fat soluble vitamins to be absorbed.

I usually freeze some for later and the rest keeps for a long time in the fridge since there’s no meat in this chili. This chili will greatly help with your fat loss and muscle building efforts.

This recipe can also easily be made vegetarian/vegan by using veggie bouillon, and eliminating the optional cheese and yogurt.

Sprinkle on some nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor instead and some avocado instead of the yogurt.

    It’s great to see a meat-free chili recipe on here! Replacing the boulin cubes with a vegetable stock I was easily able to make this a vegan recipe which is hard to find among body building/fitness sites. Thanks!
